With Calix now imprisoned, Dia, is left to find a way to keep Calix alive and to pick up the pieces the assassin has left the nation in. But that might prove nearly impossible. Princess Emira is poised to snatch the throne away from Dia and Warlord of the West gathers her army, intent on putting her own young niece on H’arn’s throne.

When the Warlord of the West marches on H’arn’s capital the walls will not hold for long and she will show no mercy to the civilians trapped behind them. If Dia is to keep H’arn and its people from being torn apart by civil war he must call on every trick, every ally, and even his enemies. But will it be enough or will H’arn follow its neighbors example and burn? And what of the secrets Calix is still keeping locked with him in his cell?
